Paint, paint, paint, paint, PAINT!

Life has been busy. Work for Dan, a school board conference and Saturday workshop for me, and lots of little interruptions. However, we’ve made progress on the house. We still have a lot to do, but in other ways we are so close to unpacking the rest of the boxes!

Since I last updated this blog, we have painted. Painted a lot. We had to go get more paint. Some for the touch ups in the hall corners and then more for the living room. I went ahead and did a crazy thing. I painted the dining room. With a really soft roller. It took about two hours, but… it looks beautiful. Very bright. 🙂

I’ve been stripping the cupboard doors and drawers in the kitchen and breakfast nook. I sanded a few, and realized that it was crazy. Since then, I have decided that Citrusstrip is my best friend! Ecological, smells nice, and it does not make me wheeze. I’ve done 11 drawers and I’ve done 9 of 16 doors. Tomorrow I will be doing the second coat of paint on the breakfast nook and kitchen. Oh, and stripping more doors.

Today I was on the ladder a lot. I cleared, cleaned and hung the light in the studio. I put up a curtain rod and attached the plate for the fire alarm. Pretty good for someone who has intermittent vertigo!

Here are some of the latest pics.

Little Improvements

I’ve been painting. 🙂 We have two rooms done. Well, nearly done. There are a few touch ups to do in the room that was turquoise. I’ve started painting over that green in the bathroom too.

Today, Dan fixed the little telephone niche that is in the hall. The top was very beaten up. So, today he made a new one. He made a relief in the top, where the cords will come up so that we can recharge our phones there.

We worked on the Furnace room too. It was the last ‘dirty’ place. While I’ve been painting, he’s been cleaning out the basement. What a slog. What a mess! Rotten food, cat shit, trash, discarded clothing, etc. Horrid. Well, today I helped in the furnace room. I did my best to sort out trash from treasure. Sometimes I found treasure, but it was fouled. Yeah, you can guess by what. We also checked out the furnace. It reportedly didn’t work. Well, if you don’t add water, and don’t bleed the lines, it doesn’t work as well. As soon as the room is clean and we have propane, we will have heat!

The worst was the books. My books, that had been left behind. Ludlum’s, Mitchner’s, all sorts of books. Some were in boxes. Others were just dumped on the floor. Some are only good for decoupage or distressed book art. grrrrr… I am not happy. Those two were librarians, and they let these and other books just be destroyed. Akkkk!

Tomorrow, we will finish the furnace room and begin to sanitize the basement. We will haul out all of the salvageable stuff, clean it and then once the basement is clean, bring it back in. Gah!

Paint Fumes and furniture!!!

The last two days have been busy. Ian and Dan brought bookcases over from the Methodist church. We worked the living room and office to accommodate the ‘new’ shelves. IT is still a bit torn up, but it looks so much better.

Today I painted the dresser and one of the bookcases. Blue to match the paint in the bedroom.:) Then we put wood style floor tiles on the top of the dresser to finish it off. It looks soooo cool. I’ll get pictures and post them tomorrow. All I have to do now is finish the curtains, hand the new lights and the bedroom will be totally done.

Tomorrow we are going to use some of the tiles in the kitchen to fix where the Formica top has peeled off. Hopefully this week Dan and Ian will start the plumbing. (hope! hope! hope!)

Now to make a bit of dinner and watch a movie. I’m exhausted!

Transformation of a bedroom!

For nearly three years, I have dealt with a horrid paint job in the bedroom. I’ve dreamed of various things that I wanted to do with the room. We even found dragonflies lights and pins to use. Worst thing was the wait. Too damn cold.  This week with the warm weather, I finally said to hell with it. We bought paint and attacked the room.

This is what it use to look like:

Now it looks like this:

We did new paint on the walls and the doors. New door handles and then the cloud of fabric on the ceiling. Onto that went two strings of dragonfly lights and lots of dragonfly pins to hold the fabric up as needed. Then a canopy which is tented and held up with ties on the wall. I love laying in bed with the lights on!!!!
